Great Question By The GM of a Pro Sports Team

I was recently asked the following question by the General Manager of a Pro Sports Team which I thought would be beneficial to post here on this blog:

“How does the coach communicate to a player to go to or be in a certain spot on the field at a certain time?"

This is an extrinsic play or “process” question.

Sports Axiology measures the player’s evaluative judgment which includes [on the front end] what method of...

Beyond the Weight Room

I met with a few high school athletes this week regarding either their performance or a lingering injury. Looking back on those meetings, there was a common thread among them. Each of their coaches and trainers had suggested different exercises and stretches for them to do. However, none of them did!

Were they the most appropriate exercises/stretches for that athlete? Not necessarily, but it would not have harmed them. What's most unfortunate is that if these athlete's actually would have done what was asked of them, they most likely would not have contacted me at this point in their season.

The majority of athletes having taken the Ready To Play Profile are only moderately clear about their self-identity and role-awareness. Therefore, athletes with this pattern NEED accountability, encouragement, etc.

So the question of the day is...

How are you holding your athlete's accountable when they are not with you? What measures are you providing and encouraging the other twenty three hours in the day they are not with you?

Think about it...how much better would your athletes be if only they did what you asked beyond the weight room?
